Stepping back into our fruitful past, you might be surprised to discover a myriad of significant Simonsig ‘firsts’ introduced to the global vineyard, visible through an extensive range of distinctive red, white and sparkling wines.
Some of Simonsig’s groundbreaking innovations include South Africa’s first Méthode Cap Classique, Kaapse Vonkel – a sparkling wine made in the style of classic French champagne – as well as the first Rhine Riesling and wooded white wine in the country.
Judged by the world’s finest critics, Simonsig has garnered an impressive collection of prestigious local and international awards and listings, including South Africa’s Top Shiraz and Woman Winemaker of the Year.
The estate was voted best natural wine cellar at the Veritas Awards, South Africa’s premier wine competition, in 2005, whilst it excelled with its highest ever achievement at this prestigious competition in 2007, winning a record total of 23 medals.
In 2008, Simonsig was recognised as one of South Africa’s Top 10 cellars in the 2008 Classification of the country’s definitive publication, WINE.
